We offer four different age levels for our co-ed soccer program

Pre-K and Kindergarten

Play every Saturday at the pit fields from 10:00-11:00 AM for 6 consecutive weeks. During this time, the kids will be with their respective teams (we typically have about 4-6 teams for this age group), spending the first 30 minutes practicing drills and the second 30 minutes in a scrimmage style game with one of the other teams at the same age level.

This age level works on the following skills:

  • Passing
  • Dribbling
  • Basic agility
  • Balance and coordination
  • Taking turns
  • Listening to Coach
  • Social skills/teamwork

  • Spreading out on the field, not crowding to the ball

  • Names and responsibilities for basic positions
  • Communication with teammates and coaches
  • Working as a team

Practice twice a week at the pit fields at the coach’s discretion. The coach will contact you prior to the start of the season (usually by email) and let you know which days and times practices will be for your team. Practice is typically an hour to an hour and a half long.

Games will be on Saturdays and will be played at either the Sidney pit fields, Belgrade Central School fields, or Oakland Pleasant Point Park fields. You will receive a game schedule from your coach at the beginning of the season. Games are typically only an hour, but you may have some double headers during the season!

This age level works on the following skills:

  • When to pass vs dribble
  • Keeping head up when dribbling
  • Looking at target before passing
  • Passing with the inside of both feet
  • Where to go when a teammate has the ball
  • What to do when you lose the ball
  • Staying in position
  • Restarts, like goal kicks, corner kicks, and kickoff

Required Equipment

1. Water Bottle

Everyone needs to bring a water bottle to every practice and every game. There is no drinking water available at the fields and coaches will not provide any unless otherwise specified. Our snack shack will be open every Saturday morning with bottles of water available for purchase.

2. Proper Fitting Shin Guards:

Shin guards come in multiple different sizes. Please make sure that your child’s shin guards are properly fitted to keep them well protected during play.

Recommended Equipment (NOT required)

1. Cleats

Proper fitting sneakers are perfectly suitable. Soccer cleats are not required for our programs, but are recommended. Sometimes the grass on the fields can be slippery from the dew or rain and wearing cleats can help to get better traction and result in less slips or falls.

2. Soccer Balls

Soccer balls will be provided by the coach at each practice. Pre-K through 2nd grade will use a size 3 ball and 3rd through 6th grade will use a size 4 ball. You do not need to bring your own ball to practice. If you do bring your own ball, PLEASE make sure that your name is written on it. We are not responsible for balls getting lost or stolen during practices or games.

3. Attire

Team t-shirts are handed out at the beginning of the season. The size you requested on your registration form will be available for you. Players should be dressed in loose fitting, comfortable and weather appropriate athletic clothing and should wear their team t-shirt at every practice and game. It is acceptable to wear your team t-shirt over a sweatshirt or another shirt for added warmth on those cooler days.

Parents and guardians

Parents and guardians may bring chairs or blankets to sit on the sidelines to spectate. Family and friends are welcome!

Parents and guardians are encouraged to help out! Coaches are typically just parents themselves and wrangling these kids can be a lot of work. Let your child’s coach know that you’re available to help out if they need you! See our page on volunteering for more information on how to get more involved!

Our coaches tend to use email as the primary form of communication about your child’s team happenings. Please make sure that you are checking the email address that you provided on your child’s registration form FREQUENTLY so that you do not miss important updates.

Any and all cancellations, due to inclement weather or otherwise, will be posted on the Sidney Athletic Association’s Facebook page at least one hour prior to start time. If there is no update there, then you can assume that the game or practice is on.

We are excited to be heading into our 2024 soccer season here in Sidney. We hope to have a great turnout this year and wish you all a fantastic season! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us via messenger on Facebook or by email at sidneymeathletics@gmail.com and someone from the organization will get back to you as soon as possible.

Go Sidney!
