Majors – League Rules
Recommended Age: 11 & 12 Year Olds
Game Format:
The infield fly rule is in effect
· Dropped 3rd strike is in effect.
· Pitchers are limited to 85 pitches/day. (Assuming 11-12 year olds in majors)
· If 1-40 pitches are thrown, the pitcher may throw again the next day.
· If 41-65 pitches are thrown, the pitcher needs 1 day rest before throwing again.
· If 66+ pitches are thrown, the pitcher needs 2 days rest before throwing again.
· Exception: If the maximum pitch count limit is reached while facing a batter, the pitcher
may continue until the batter reaches base safely or is put out. (see rule book page 27)
· No pitcher shall appear in a game as a pitcher for three consecutive days/games
regardless of pitch count.
· Minimum play for each player is 6 defensive outs and 1 at bat
· A game length is 6 innings. No inning may be started after 1 hour 45 mins from the first pitch
· There is a 10 run mercy rule after 4 innings. It is then up to the coaches to make a mutual
decision on whether or not to continue the game, with the understanding that the game is
officially over.
· There will be no head first sliding into a gained base. If a player slides headfirst safely, they will
be sent back to the last base safely achieved if not occupied by another player. If a player slides
headfirst and is out, then the player is out.
· No Intentional Walks.
· If a player squares to bunt they must bunt or pull back; no swinging once they show bunt or the
play is dead and the batter is out. No slash bunting.

· If a game is to be cancelled it must be done by 4 pm the afternoon of the game, the decision will
be made by the home team manager who will then inform visiting team the umpires, and field
coordinator. It will be up to the two managers to schedule a make-up date

visiting team gets the field, 5 minutes before game time will be the coaches and umpire meeting
· The home team manager will be responsible for emailing or calling the morning sentinel to
submit the scores to the paper. Report the score for Central Maine Cal Ripken League, use the
team sponsor names not the name of the town. If the score is greater than 10 runs use only a 10
run differential. Included would be winning pitcher, top three hitters or players for each team.
Please make sure you have first and last name. Please speak with other coach to get the names
they would like to have in. If possible try to make sure each players name makes it into the paper
once during the year. The email to the paper is cmnsport@centralmaine.com
Minors – League Rules
Recommended Age: 8-10 Years Old
Game Format:
· All players will be in the batting order and it is open substitution
· Only allowed to advance one base per pitch, this includes steals and passed balls.
· No Stealing Home in any local league games; runners can only score on a batted ball or a bases loaded
walk.
· 4 Outfielders in all minor league games.
· Maximum of 10 batters per inning, except in the final inning of the game. After the ninth batter, please
announce 10th batter. In the final inning of the game, the 10 batter rule will be lifted for both teams to
allow the team that is behind a chance to come back. The umpire will decide what is the final inning prior
to start of the last inning.
· No Walk Rule: For the first TWO WEEKS of the season, no batter shall be walked on 4 balls. When the
count reaches ball 4, the coach for the offensive team will pitch the remaining AB. Batters may strike out,
and umpires continue to call balls/strikes.
· Clarification to the must retreat rule: When the runner retreats to the previous base safely and the ball is
mishandled by the pitcher or other player, not making a play directly on the runner, the runner must remain
on the current base. Example: catcher throws back to pitcher and ball rolls into center field. If the runner on
second has retreated to the base, the runner needs to remain on second until the start of the next play.
· If available, runners need to run to safety base at first base. If not, runner will be called out.
· Pitchers are limited to 75 pitches/day.
· If 1-40 pitches are thrown, the pitcher may throw again the next day.
· If 41-65 pitches are thrown, the pitcher needs 1 day rest before throwing again.
· If 66+ pitches are thrown, the pitcher needs 2 days rest before throwing again.
· Exception: If the maximum pitch count limit is reached while facing a batter, the pitcher may
continue until the batter reaches base safely or is put out. (see rule book page 27)
· No pitcher shall appear in a game as a pitcher for three consecutive days/games regardless of pitch
count.
