We are so excited to be heading into our 2025 Messalonskee Youth Basketball Season!
Youth basketball registrations are now CLOSED
Pre-K through 6th Grade Rec Basketball: $25 per player
Travel Basketball (3rd-6th Grade only): FREE (can only be played in addition to rec)
All registration proceeds go directly to the MYBA program, not SAA or Oakland Rec Dept.
Please see the schedule for each division below:
Sidney Pre-K & Kindergarten
Practice Saturdays 1:00-2:00 PM
Players will learn the absolute bare basics of basketball with different drills and fun games. Players will be separated into three groups each week and rotated between dribbling, passing and shooting stations.
Teams are co-ed.
Sidney 1st & 2nd Grade
Practice Saturdays 2:00-3:00 PM & 3:00-4:00 PM (see schedule here)
Players will continue learning the basics of the game. They will learn things such as what the positions are, offense vs defense and when to pass vs when to shoot.
Players will have 30 minutes of practice with their coach followed by 30 minutes of real game-play that will be frequently paused by coaches to instruct and teach in the moment. This division does not keep score and is not competitive but will be focused on learning the game and building sportsmanship among players.
Players will be separated into four teams on the first day of practice and will play each subsequent Saturday on a rotating schedule as to play each of the other three teams in a game. Your practice will not be the same time every week.
Teams are co-ed.
3rd – 6th Grade Boys & Girls Rec Teams
Rec will start practicing mid-December with games starting Saturday January 4th. 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade teams will practice on a rotating location, once per week, mid-week. Practices will be either in Sidney at the James H Bean School, at Williams Elementary in Oakland, or at Belgrade Central School in Belgrade. Teams will have one game per week on Saturdays at Messalonskee Middle School in the afternoons. Teams are not co-ed.
3rd – 6th Grade Boys & Girls Travel Teams (in addition to Rec Team)
Teams will practice twice per week, starting the last week of November, at Coach’s discretion. Teams will have one game on Sundays, in varying locations. Players will also participate in at least one travel tournament during the season.
Depending on the sign-up numbers, MYBA may require tryouts and cuts to keep rosters at a manageable number. Travel basketball is about competition and is for those committed players looking for more of a challenge.
We are looking forward to a great 2025 basketball season!
Let’s play some basketball!
